Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel of the original Blade Runner (1982). It’s directed by the genius behind the critically-acclaimed Arrival, none other than Dennise Villeneuve. The film is going to be released in October 2017. The script is written by the man behind the original Blade Runner, Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Ridley Scott who directed Blade Runner in 1982 decided to executively produce Blade Runner 2049. Scott said that in Blade Runner 2049, the identity of Rich Deckard would be revealed. Blade Runner 2049’s Synopsis :
The film sets thirty years after the first film in Los Angeles, California. Where a new Blade Runner, an LAPD Police Officer (Ryan Gosling) successfuly revealed a big secret that could results in chaos. K’s finding then brought him to a journey to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former Blade Runner member who had been disappeared.
What can we expect from the sequel of Blade Runner? We can definitely expect a dystopian future where humanity is on the brinks of extinction and everything around them is about to collapse. In the style of Ridley Scott, the king who has brought us many legendary sci-fis like Alien, we can also expect a high technology visual effects that can’t be found in the previous installment. The characters will also bring sopphisticated weapons in their hands. Sold as the sequel of the famous original film, Ridley Scott said that he doesn’t want people to compare which one is better, or even going further by questioning whether or not the sequel itself is needed to be made. Scott is only interested in keeping the hype alive, he wants to keep the story alive.
Ryan Gosling leaked this film is going to be more brutal than the original version. Gosling added that the film will focus on the existence of Officer K’s biological body. Who then come after ex member Rick Deckard to ask for his help. The trailer of Blade Runner 2049 gained mostli positive reviews from many critics., Villenueve who successfully keeps the original film’s cinematography. The trailer even won the Golden Trailer Awards.
With the world getting into the post-truth era since Trump’s victory in US Presidential Election, people would relate more with the idea of dystopian future. Anxiety, depression, fear of the uncertain future, climate change, job-loss, economy fatigue are all parts of today’s society’s problems. It seems that Blade Runner 2049 tries to make impact to its viewers by exploiting the emotions that today’s society feels. Otherwise, the dynamic duo portrayed by Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford is sure one of the things that you don’t want to miss in this film.
